An Emergency May
Last Only Minutes.
Courage Continues
Much Longer.
Lieutenant David Godfrey of the York County Sheriff's Office was critically wounded during an ambush. Three of his companion officers did not survive.
What followed — recovery, grief, remembrance — has continued much longer.
The Story
A Marine. A Deputy. A Long
Road Back.
Lieutenant David Godfrey is a former United States Marine and a 24-year veteran of the York
County Sheriff's Office.
On September 17, 2025, he was critically wounded during an ambush in York County. Three
members of the Northern York County Regional Police Department did not come home.

What came next was a long and difficult recovery. Progress came through medical treatment, rehabilitation, painful physical challenges, and days of uncertainty.
But he did not face those days alone.
Medical professionals cared for him. Fellow officers stood beside him. His family supported
him. People throughout the community sent prayers, cards, and messages of encouragement.
When he left inpatient rehabilitation, fellow officers, medical staff, elected officials, and
members of the community gathered to welcome him.

This is more than a story about surviving an emergency.
It is a story about finding courage in rehabilitation, in grief, and in learning to live after everything has changed.
You have not been
forgotten.
That was the message carried by everyone who gathered to welcome Lieutenant Godfrey home. As an Honorary Member, you help send that same message to Pennsylvania's sheriffs, deputies, and their families.
